Dutse, Dec. 8, 2016 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Jigawa has urged the state government to establish a Traffic Management Agency (TMA).

The state’s Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr Angus Ibezim, made the call when he visited the Speaker, Jigawa House of Assembly, Alhaji Garba Idris, in Dutse on Thursday.

Ibezim said the measure would help full enforcement and compliance with the commission’s rules and regulations on road safety.

He explained that the establishment of such an agency would help the state and the FRSC in checking reckless driving and other traffic offences across the state.

The sector commander further pointed out that it would go a long way in reducing road traffic crashes, and help provide employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the state.

Ibezim noted that Jigawa was among the few states yet to establish such agency, and urged the speaker to ensure that all drivers in the house of assembly are trained and licensed by the corps.

The sector commander called on the house members to key into the FRSC’s Speed Limiting Device and tyre sensitization and advocacy programme, adding that there was need for it to interface with the executive, to boost road safety efforts.

Responding, the speaker thanked the sector commander for the visit, saying that it was the first of its kind in the house.

Idris also reiterated the commitment of the house to the establishment of the state traffic management agency, and directed the Clerk of the House to liaise with the FRSC to produce drivers’ licences for members.

The speaker added that the house would partner with the corps to train its drivers, as a way of making road safety rules more effective.

The speaker, who was later given an Honorary Special Marshal award, expresssed appreciation for the gesture, saying that a unit of the special marshals would be created in the house to enable all members key in. (NAN)
