Enugu, Feb. 1, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Enugu State Command says it will partner with other security agencies in the state for proper enforcement of the use of speed limiting device by commercial drivers.
The FRSC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Lucky Ebikefe, said in an interview with NAN in Enugu on Wednesday, that the collaboration was to ensure protective and proper patrol on the highways.
FRSC commenced nationwide enforcement of speed limiting devices by commercial vehicles on Feb. 1.
The commission had carried out massive enlightenment campaign for commercial bus drivers and fleet operators on the essence of installing and use of speed limiting device throughout 2016.
According to FRSC’s prediction, the device will reduce accidents by 70 per cent annually, among other benefits.
“The patrol by the staff of the FRSC will be carried out smoothly and effectively with help of other agencies due to the recklessness of some commercial drivers on the high way,’’ he said.
He said that other agencies involved in the exercise included: Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
“Their cooperation was to help in the smooth and proper enforcement, especially on commercial drivers in the state.’’
The PRO said that the FRSC would be mounting patrol on three major roads: Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt and Enugu-Abakaliki roads.(NAN)
