Foundation pays patients’ hospital bills

Ile-Ife (Osun), Sept. 8, 2017 (NAN) An NGO, Dr Wale Bolorunduro Foundation, on Friday paid over N1 million hospital bills incurred by indigent patients at the Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals , Ile Ife, Osun State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the payment of the hospital bills brought joy and relieve to the patients.

The beneficiaries were those who had received treatment and discharged, but were not allowed to leave the hospital premises as a result of their inability to pay their medical bills.

The settlement of the medical bills was to mark the 51st birthday of the Chairman of the Foundation, Dr Adewale Bolorunduro.

NAN reports that Bolorunduro was the immediate past Osun State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning.

Bolorunduro said the gesture was part of his foundation’s health care intervention scheme.

Some of the beneficiaries of the medical bills include Mr Michael Thompson, who was treated for diabetes, but could not go back home for two weeks because he owed the hospital N110,000.

Also, Mr Ajelogun Titus owed the hospital N88,000 for the treatment of depression and has been discharged for over two weeks but cannot leave the hospital.

Gbadegesin Ayodeji was treated for leg related ailments owed the hospital N88,335, while Babalola Oluwatoyin received treatment for skin ailments and owed the hospital N72,655.

A widow, Ms Alaba Adenike from Modakeke owed N46,560 for the treatment of leg ailments, while Ojudale Arinade from Ile-Ife owed N46,560 and Awoyemi Olabisi owed N42,560.

Hezekiah, a baby born on Aug. 4 and later named Goodluck, owed N35,780 and baby Salawu born on Aug. 3 owed N28, 000.

Others are Ademola Olusola who had been bed ridden for over a month owed the hospital N24,035, and baby Farouk Tijani who was born on Aug. 7, owed N14, 150.

Speaking at the event, Bolorunduro , who tagged the event as celebrating with the down trodden, said “my heart is always with the down trodden”.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD), OAUTHC, Prof. Victor Adetiloye, appreciated Bolorunduro for his good gesture towards the needy.

He appealed to other philanthropists, NGOs and politicians to emulate the philanthropic gesture of Bolorunduro in assisting the less privileged.

The CMD prayed for the celebrant’s for long life and prosperity so as to reap the fruits of his labour.

Adetiloye charged him not to relent in doing good as his name would be written on the platter of gold. (NAN)
