Matazu (Katsina State), May 2, 2018 (NAN) No fewer than 800 less privileged persons in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State have benefited from free medical treatment by the Ukashatu Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO).
The chairman of the foundation, Dr Hamza Ukashatu, said on the occasion, on Wednesday in Matazu, that the beneficiaries were less privileged persons in rural areas, who had been financially handicapped to treat their ailments.
He identified the ailments that the foundation offered to treat as opthalmic cases, hypertension, peptic ulcer and diabetes.
“We diagnose the patients and realised that they have been with such ailments for long due to financial constraints.
“Medications were given to them and they were counselled on the causes and preventive measures.
“We also conducted glaucoma and cataract extraction surgeries on 74 persons,” he said.
According to him, the gesture is aimed at complementing government’s efforts at improving health care delivery, particularly for rural dwellers.
In her remarks, the wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajia Hadiza Aminu-Masari, applauded the efforts of Ukashatu Foundation for saving the lives of the lower class in the society.
Masari urged wealthy individuals in the state to emulate the foundation with a view to improving their living conditions.
The team leader of the exercise, Dr Aliyu Aliyu, enlightened the rural dwellers on the causes and preventive measures of the diseases.
He urged the patients to abide by the advice offered them to enable them live a healthy life.
The District Head of Matazu, Alhaji Ibrahim Maikano, thanked the foundation for the gesture and urged the people to abide by the advice given to them by the medical experts. (NAN)
