Port Harcourt, Jan. 17, 2017(NAN) The Chairman of former Rivers Assembly Speakers, Chief Stephen Ezekwem has urged the current state assembly to be proactive in the discharge of its legislative business.
Ezekwmen told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that achieving efficiency in legislative business required collectivism on the part of members.
He called on members of the assembly to work together for the progress of the state irrespective of their party affiliations.
The former speaker said that the beauty of democracy revolved around having different parties and different ideas to legislative debates.
Ezekwen said that the legislative activism witnessed in the state during the two party system era was due the collectivism exhibited by members.
“Today, we have APC members that have been elected into the assembly and to me that is the beauty of democracy.
“As legislators, they must be willing to work as team, putting the state first in all their activities and with such mindset they will do well,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Dec. 10 2016 rerun elections in Rivers has led to the emergence of All progressives Congress lawmakers in the assembly. (NAN)
