Abuja, July 25, 2017 (NAN) The Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has advised the newly inaugurated presidents of National Sports Federations to focus on the development of sports at the grassroots.

The miniser, who gave the advice on Tuesday in Abuja while addressing newsmen, said the ministry was interested in developing young athletes to replace the aging ones.

“I want the federations to concentrate on the development of sports at the grassroots.

“We have deflated the profile our elite athletes; if something is not done, we will be in short supply of athletes in the near future,’’ he said.

The minister also advised the new board to abide by the code of governance.

He warned that the ministry would not tolerate presidents who would run the federations as sole administrator.

“My charge to the newly inaugurated presidents is that nobody should run the federations again like a sole administrator.

“ You must consult and hold meetings as provided in the code of governance.

“There must be transparent management of funds whether from the government, government agencies or sponsors,’’ he said, adding that federations must be accounted to monies given to them.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dalung inaugurated 29 National Sports Federation board members on July 21. (NAN)
