Abuja, Feb.28, 2018 (NAN) The Former Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr Emeka Ezeh, has called for security and protection of serving chief executives of government parastatals.
Ezeh who was also, Member Board of Trustee, Forum for Former Chief Executives of Federal Government Parastatals, made the call at the Second General Meeting of the Forum on Wednesday in Abuja.
He also called for increased welfare for chief executives who have served and those who were still in office.
According to him, the forum is committed to look at issues affecting members, governance and the country in general.
“We are also canvassing for the safety and protection in office tenure of chief executive officers, if you have a four year term, you should be allowed to do your four years and go.
“Rather than being appointed for four year tenure and after two years you are removed from office it doesn’t say well of the government and it hinders growth in the service.
“The welfare of chief executives both of the serving ones and those who have served is paramount on our discussion and we are here to give support to chief executives currently occupying positions.
“There is the need to evaluate and improve on the policies that is on ground as no system is perfect, but we must be honest enough to admit that,’’ he said.
Ezeh added that the agenda of the forum was to bring back all the chief executives of federal institutions from 1960 till date.
He said that a platform would be provided for them to interact towards contributing to national development.
Earlier, Mr Mustafa Bello, President of the forum said that the forum was set up to bring together intellectual resources to help accelerate the pace of nation building.
Bello also noted that the nation’s current development was slow, adding that the forum would help to enhance the growth.
“We are trying to bring together the intellectual resources, we believe that in Nigerian once you vacate your office as an executive nobody remembers you or thinks you are worthy of being utilised anymore.
“So through this forum we can help government directly or indirectly either by engaging us or we engaging them, to accelerate the pace at which we are going because now I think we are moving very slowly,’’ he said.
Bello said that lectures would be organised for the members of the forum to discuss on topical issues that would address the Nigeria situation for better development.
He, however, urged more members to join the forum.
Also Mr Ferdinard Agu, Secretary of the Forum, opined that the citizens of the country should assist the government in building the nation by contributing to the national consensus on peace and unity.
He explained that the forum was established to enhance dissemination of information and to provide knowledge to the people to help them succeed in office.
“It is very important that we engage the government and make resources available to them and continually intervene in the polity.
“There are a lot of things Nigerians can do to support the government, we can contribute by providing meaningful and useful advice.(NAN)
