Keffi (Nasarawa state) Dec. 6, 2016 (NAN) The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Keffi, Nasarawa, said on Tuesday that it would provide free surgeries to over 100 indigenes of the state under the Federal Government Rapid Response Initiative (RRI) programme.
The Chief Medical Director of the centre, Dr. Giyan Joshua-Ndom, disclosed this to newsmen after he had successfully conducted an operation on an hernia patient in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hospital had performed free surgeries on different patients suffering from various ailments and the free surgery.
Joshua – Ndom said President Muhammadu Buhari deserved commendation for organising the programme nationwide.
He said that it would go a long way in improving the standard of living and healthcare of Nigerians.
“This programme is part of President Buhari and his team under Rapid Response Initiative (RRI) aimed at reaching out to indigent patients across the country and the target is to do 10,000 surgeries nationwide.
“In Nasarawa State, we have screened patients who have different surgical ailments from different local government areas of the state and over 100 patients are to benefit from the gesture.
“Other surgeries to be done on patients include: Inguinal Herniorrhaphy, Hydrocelectory, cataract extraction, Myomectomy, Hysterectomy, Lumpectomy for breast lumps and lipoma, correction of refractive errors among others,” he said.
According to him, FMC Keffi is keeping with its vision and mission of excellence.
Joshua – Ndom reaffirmed the commitment of management of the centre to key into the policies and programmes that had direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state and the country at large.
Also speaking, the chairman of the free medical surgery team, Dr. Olushola Ajamu, commended the Federal Government for the initiative.
Mr Aliyu Allu, a patient who was successfully operated of Hernia ailment, thanked the Federal Government for the gesture and called for its sustenance. (NAN)
