Lagos, July 5, 2017 (NAN) The World Para Powerlifting body has invited all National Paralympic Committees to nominate candidates for the first Athletes’ Representative election holding in September.
A statement on the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) website on Wednesday said that the election would hold alongside the 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6.
It said the representative will serve a four-year term on the sport’s technical committee, acting as liaison between the athletes and the World Para Powerlifting to represent the views, interests and rights of the athletes.
According to the statement, candidates should have strong qualities of leadership, accomplishment, knowledge and respect, both on and off the field of play.
“World Para Powerlifting particularly welcomes candidates with experience in and a commitment to the advocacy of athlete-related issues.
If elected, the representative is expected to devote the necessary time required to attend to relevant activities,’’ it said.
Submission of nominations would end on Aug. 31. (NAN)
