Lagos, May 4, 2017 (NAN) A film-maker, Emmanuel Agogovia on Thursday urged producers to pay more attention to the quality and productions of their works, rather than the financial gains.

Agogovia told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that Nollywood movies were yet to be nominated for foreign awards because they lacked professional input.

According to him, some producers prefer to hire amateurs and payless than hire professionals that will keep and sustain the industry standard.

“It is unfortunate that the norm in the industry today is to hand pick people by the road; bring them to locations to aid production.

“All because we want to save cost and make more money at the expense of our reputation.

“No doubt Nollywood is a household name and our movies flood the market all over the world.

“The question, however, is how many of these movies can attain African categories of international awards?’’ Agogovia asked.

He alleged that some producers were in the film business to amass wealth rather than create movies that would stand the test of time.

“You know what they say “you can’t eat your cake and have it’’ and that’s our greatest challenge.

“There are movies that you have to invest some good amount of money because the returns might not be immediate, but in the long run it will pay much more that you ever imagined.

“Titanic in history was the first movie in the United States to hit over one billion dollars and after then Avatar, was the second to do same but you can’t imagine how much was invested to produce these movies,’’ Agogovia said.

NAN reports that Agogovia is a notable name in the industry with over 12 years’ experience with movies such as “My Dream’’, “Rapture’’ and “Sexy Woman,’’ all to his credit. (NAN)
