Enugu, Jan. 11, 2018 (NAN) The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mohammed Danmallam, says the Police Command is seeking closer synergy with residents to enable it to combat crime more effectively in the state.

Danmallam made the appeal on Thursday while inaugurating an office for the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of Independent Layout Police Division in Enugu.

“We value the partnership of residents of this layout; in fact, we are asking for closer collaboration to bring crime to its barest minimal.

“We need intelligence information about criminals and criminal activities for us to function optimally.

“I am assuring you that once this vital intelligence information is given to us, it will be treated
with the seriousness and confidentiality it deserves,’’ he appealed.

Danmallam said that the project had shown that the DPO of the division, Mr Mashat Danladi, had been utilising the community policing principles.

“The DPO, Danladi, is already following the footsteps of Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Ibrahim Idris, as he usually emphasises on community policing and collaboration to build a functional and proactive police,’’ he said.

Danladi said that the project was executed through efforts of personalities in the community that identified with the police.

“The I-G and commissioner had been my backbone and role models, which propelled me to come out with this initiative.

“Some personalities in the community supported my vision for this project and within four months we erected this  edifice.

“This project is not for me or about me; but for the community since as a police officers we would be transferred, while the project remains,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new DPO’s office also contains the DPO administrative secretary’s office, visitors’ waiting room as well as sets of conveniences.

The DPO also repainted the entire station and renovated the gate room and saluting podium. (NAN)
