Abuja, Dec. 14, 2016 (NAN) The Federal Government has appealed to communities across the country benefitting from the ecological intervention projects to protect them for the good of their people.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Lawrence Ojabo, the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations, Ecological Fund Office, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement said the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri made the appeal at Sagbama, Bayelsa State while inaugurating the shoreline protection project, funded by the Ecological Fund Office in the area.
He said that within the limits of scarce resources, the Federal Government considered the town deserving of the intervention project, and enjoined host communities to protect it.
Lokpobiri also assured that all on-going ecological projects as well as projects by the Federal Government in the state would be completed.
“No project will be abandoned by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, and Government will do what is necessary to ensure that we complete all the projects that are on-going within the limits of available resources.’’
Addressing stakeholders and dignitaries at the project site, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr Habiba Lawal said that the Sagbama Erosion Control Project was very dear to the Federal Government.
“This is why the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had mandated that I welcome all dignitaries and stakeholders to the project commissioning.’’
She said that the Shoreline protection project would protect the Sagbama Community against flood waters, and enable them to pursue their economic activities and livelihoods to improve their quality of lives.
Earlier, Lokpobiri, and Lawal had led other officials on a courtesy call to the Paramount ruler of Sagbama, His Royal Majesty, Pere Embareba IV, the Pere of Kumbowei Kingdom. (NAN)
