Lagos, Nov. 9, 2017 (NAN) Some exhibitors have called for the yearly commemoration of the historic event, FESTAC `77, to further promote and foster cultural integration and interaction amongst African countries.

They spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), at the ongoing commemoration of the historic event tagged, “Festac `77 @40’’ in Lagos on Thursday.

Mr Gabriel Dada, a tie and dye expert said that FESTAC `77 was the celebration of unity, friendship and brotherliness.

“FESTAC `77 should be a yearly festival because when we had it, it gave room for promotion of peace and unity among African countries, if this is done yearly, we will benefit hugely, “he said.

Mr Madicke Sene, a bead exhibitor from Senegal said that yearly commemoration of the historic festival would enable artists from different countries know and learn new innovations and share ideas.

“Yearly FESTAC `77 festivals will enable us the artists to learn from one another,” he said.

Similarly, Mr Ibrahim Lawal, a textile artist, said that if held annually, the celebration would boost tourism.

Lawal said the festival would serve as opportunity for other countries to see the rich culture of Nigerian.

“Inbound tourism will improve if the Federal Government can make it a yearly celebration,” Lawal said.

Similarly, Miss Chinyere Ogidi, Publisher, Wakaabout Africa media, said that the festival would help educate the young ones on the nation’s rich cultural heritage and that of other countries.

Ogidi explained that the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would have an appreciable increase as different business transactions would be held, among different countries’ delegates.

“This will enable the children to learn more of our culture and increase nation’s GDP,” she said. (NAN)
