Federal Medical Centre begins free surgery to 100 Nasarawa State indigenes

Keffi (Nasarawa state) Dec. 6,2016 (NAN) The Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa State, said on Tuesday that it would provide free surgery to over 100 indigent patients of the state under the Federal Government Rapid Response Initiative.
The Medical Director of the Centre, Dr. Giyan Joshua-Ndom, announced this while addressing newsmen after successfully conducting an operation on a patient at the beginning of the programme in Keffi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that many patients had been operated for different ailments while the free surgery would last for two days from Tuesday.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for organising the programme nationwide, adding that it would improve on the standard of living and health of Nigerians.
“This programme is part of President Buhari and his team’s project under Rapid Response Initiative (RRI) aimed at reaching out to indigent patients nationwide.
“In Nasarawa State, we have screened patients who have different surgical ailments from different local government areas and over 100 patients are to benefit from the gesture in the state free of charge.
“You saw by yourselves how I did a surgical operation for a patient with Hernia problem.
“Other surgeries to be done on patients include cataract extraction, Myomectomy, Hysterectomy, Lumpectomy for breast lumps and lipoma, correction of refractive errors.”
According to him, FMC is keeping with its vision and mission of excellence.
“We have been commended for that and many hospitals have come to learn from our experience and we urge the public to always give the centre the maximum cooperation to enable it to succeed.”
He denied a report that a man’s kidney was removed during an operation in the centre, describing such report as not only unfounded but false.
The medical director reiterated the commitment of the management to continue to key into policies and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the people.
The leader of the medical exercise, Dr. Olushola Ajamu, commended the Federal Government for the initiative and assured of the doctors’ readiness to offer the free services.
Responding, Mr. Aliyu Allu, a patient who was successfully operated on an ailment, thanked the Federal Government for the gesture and called for its sustenance. (NAN)
