Kano, Feb. 21, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Fire Service, Kano Inspectorate Division, has conducted Fire Risk Assessment in 20 out of the 68 Federal Government establishments in the state.

The officer in charge of the agency, Mr Sadiq Usman, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Tuesday in Kano.

Usman said the exercise which began in 2016, was aimed at assessing whether the existing fire fighting facilities at the agencies were up to standard.

“The exercise which is ongoing is being carried out with a view to ensuring maximum safety at the agencies.

“After the assessment, we give recommendations on whether what they have on ground is up to standard.

“ We also assess whether the existing facilities need servicing, replacement or even installation of new ones if there are none,” he said.

The officer in charge also said the Inspectorate had the mandate to advise the agencies on the need to train their staff on fire safety.

He said the division was determined to ensure that the remaining 48 federal establishments in the state were also covered by the exercise before the end of the year.

He restated the commitment of the Inspectorate to partner with the state Fire Service and other security agencies in the state to achieve the desired objective.

Usman called on the State Government to include the Federal Fire Service in the State Security Council as it was the practice in other states of the federation.

He said the Inspectorate had planned to convene a stakeholders meeting to discuss areas of collaboration and partnership as well as to enlighten people of the state on its mode of operation.(NAN)
