FCE Zaria new Governing Board promises positive change, transformation

Zaria (Kaduna State), June 4, 2017 (NAN) The Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria on Tuesday inaugurated its new Governing Board headed by Dr Bello Yusuf-Lafiagi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other members of the board include the college Provost, Dr Ango Ladan, Mrs G. P. Ngubani representing Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs J. F. Suleiman of National Commission for Colleges of Education.

Others are, Dr A’isha Mohammed representing Ahmadu Bello University and Malam Bala Wakili among others.

Speaking after the formal inauguration, the new board chairman promised to bring about positive changes to the college.

“I promise you good victory, good welfare and promotion; I promise you change, there will be change at the end of my tenure, if you don’t see change at the expiration of my tenure hold me responsible.

“However, I need your total support and cooperation, both internal and external, to be able to project the image of the college,” he said.

Yusuf-Lafiagi prayed for God’s guidance, strength, wisdom and capability to enable the board deliver effective service to the college.

Chairman of the occasion, the Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris, assured the board of the full support of the Emirate Council  to take the college to the next level.

The Emir, who was represented by Fagacin Zazzau, Alhaji Umar Mohammed, advised the board to reach out to him in all areas requiring his intervention.

He urged the staff and students to sustain the prevailing peace in the college and support the management to bring about the desired changes that would uplift standards in the institution.

Earlier, the Provost, Dr Ango Ladan recalled that the college which was a front runner in teacher training services in Nigeria, came into existence in 1962 as Northern Secondary Teachers’ College.

He said it later became Advance Teachers’ College under Ahmadu Bello University before its transformation to FCE.

Ladan said the mission of the college was to attract and retain the best manpower for the training of dynamic teacher-trainees expected to teach in schools nationwide.

He pledged to maintain the vision of the college as pacesetter in teacher education in Nigeria. (NAN)
