Fashion designer in court for allegedly diverting friend’s $3,000

Lagos, Feb. 9, 2017 (NAN) A 59-year-old fashion designer, Adeoti Shina, who allegedly disappeared with his friend’s $3,000 (N1,500,000) was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, 59, who resides at Flat 28, Adetokunbo Estate, off Onilewura bus stop, Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused stole and diverted the money to his own personal use, adding that the offence was committed sometimes in Sept. 2016.
The prosecutor said the complainant, Temitayo Aiyeleso gave Shina $3,000 to help him deliver to his sick younger sister in Nigeria, for her treatment.
He alleged that the accused met with the complainant when he travelled to the United States of America on a visit.
“The complainant met with Shina in New York and gave him the said money to help in delivering to his younger sister on his return to Nigeria.
“Unfortunately, the accused converted the cash to his own personal use without making any effort to drop the money, and he absconded.
“He was later traced to his apartment and arrested,” Nwangwu said
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years imprisonment for offenders.
The accused denied the allegation.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje Afunwa granted the accused N1million bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till April 10 for proof of evidence. (NAN)
