Ikeja, April 24, 2018 (NAN) A 40 -year-old fake aluminum fabricator, who allegedly obtained N1.2 million under the pretext of
constructing aluminium windows for a man, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, Aderemi Olarenwaju, was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs F.F. George, on a two-count charge of obtaining
money under false pretences and stealing.

Olarenwaju, who resides at Ayobo-Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail of N300,000 with
two sureties in like sum.

George said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 31 at Ayobo.

He alleged that the accused fraudulently obtained N1.2 million from the complainant, Mr Louis Odiase, with a promise to produce
aluminum windows for him.

According to him,  both parties agreed on N1.2 million for the project and the accused promised to deliver the job within
two weeks.

“After the complainant paid the accused the money, he was nowhere to be found.

“All efforts to retrieve the money or get the accused to deliver the job proved unsuccessful as he refused to pick
his calls.

“When the accused was arrested and quized it was discovered that he was not an aluminum fabricator,” Awase said.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 314 stipulates 15 years imprisonment for obtaining money under
false pretences, while Section 287 prescribes three years for stealing.

The case was adjourned until May 4 for mention. (NAN)
