Abuja, Jan. 17, 2017 (NAN Mr Tayo Adewumi, the National Coordinator, Fadama III Project Additional Financing, says plans are ongoing to establish Fadama markets in strategic locations in the FCT.

Adewumi spoke on Wednesday in Gwagwalada, at the opening ceremony of a pre-disbursement training programme organised by the FCT Fadama III Additional Financing Coordination Office for Irrigated Rice Farmers’ Groups.

The national coordinator, represented by Dr Herbert Ben , said the establishment of Fadama markets in the FCT would address the challenges of enabling markets faced by farmers in the territory.

Ben, an agro-business and investment specialist at the National Fadama Coordination Office , said the idea would also create an avenue for Fadama products to contribute to the value of goods consumed in the country.

“One of the problems facing Nigerian farmers is the availability of enabling markets where they can make gains from their products.

“The population of FCT is increasing on a  daily basis and Fadama is a very strong project having large pool of farmers in the FCT.

“The idea behind establishing Fadama markets in the FCT is to create an avenue for the market to add to the value of what people are consuming.

“It is to reach out to the society to see the product of Fadama and encourage the farmers to come in and show case their goods,” he said. (NAN)
