Damaturu, Feb.14, 2017 (NAN) The Fadama lll Additional Financing Project in Yobe on Tuesday distributed foodstuff and livelihood materials to support resettlement of 40 households affected by insurgency in Malam Matari village.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Mustapha Gajerema, who launched the distribution exercise, said the project was to support the victims to restore and improve on their well being.
Gajerema said the state government had constituted a high-powered committee under the chairmanship of the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, to coordinate resettlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
He said the government had paid N20 million counterpart fund to benefit from the N274 million World Bank grant.
“Government will continue to meet all its obligations by paying counterpart fund contributions for all agencies such as Fadama and IFAD,” the commissioner said.
The state Fadama lll Coordinator, Mr Musa Garba, said the 40 benefiting households in the village were provided with goats and sheep for animal husbandry, assorted grains and cooking oil for food support.
“Every household received a set of three sheep and a ram or three she-goats and a he-goat to improve their economic status and the food support,” he said.
According to the coordinator, a total of 5,320 households in 20 communities from 14 local government areas in the state are to benefit from the Fadama lll additional financing programme.
He warned the beneficiaries against selling the foodstuff and livelihood materials.
“The programme provides you with an opportunity for self reliance and economic prosperity to rebuild your lives,” Musa said. (NAN)
