Burglary

Lagos, May 17, 2017(NAN) A 27-year-old factory worker, Tobi Akinyetu, was on Wednesday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly burgling a car.
Akinyetu, a resident of Akogun area in Dopemu, Lagos, is being tried for attempted stealing and unlawful possession.
The prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, said the accused committed the offences on May 6, at Karimu Babatunde Street, Dopemu, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused used his key to open the pick-up vehicle of Ismaila Adegoke, with intent to steal.
“The accused opened the complainant’s vehicle with his own key, in order to steal the aluminum roofing sheets loaded in the vehicle,” he said.
Nwosu said that when a search was conducted on the accused, a knife and other items were found.
“When the accused was caught and searched, a car key, a knife and torchlight were found in his possession,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravene Sections 329 and 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 406 prescribes a seven-year imprisonment as penalty for intent to commit felony.
Akinyetu pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Raji, adjourned the case until May 22, for mention. (NAN)
