Lagos, June 30, 2018(NAN) A model, Yvonne Edafe on Saturday, called for more promotion of modeling in Nigeria to harness the potentialities of models as well as create more job opportunities for youths.
Edafe, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that promotion of models would also expose practitioners to global opportunities.
According to him, modeling is one of the easiest ways to raise revenue for the entertainment industry.
She said that exposure of models could bring about foreign endorsements that would directly add up to the gross domestic product of the country.
“Many young people who have modeling skills have not been able to exploit the benefits that can be accrued to the sector through utilisation of those skills.
“If we get to expose our models via promotion, they can get signed by multimillion companies and that will help us in a lot of ways.
“There is a wide range of benefits that modeling can bring into Nigeria, but then, the first step is for us to invest in the modeling business and we can accrue the benefits therein,’’ she said.
The expert said that government, corporate organisations and international beauty brands had major roles to play in expanding the sector.
“Models will do well if there is credible sponsorship to enhance the expansion of the sector.
“Many countries like South Africa, Botswana and Kenya seemed to have grown their modeling sector to a level where it attracts foreign endorsements.
“Nigeria has a lot to learn from western countries like Italy, France and United States of America whose modeling industry have grown to a level where it is a major revenue earner for those countries.“
She urged the Nigerian government to aid people in the sector by building major modeling outfits across the six-geopolitical zones of the country to assist the sector.
“People across different cultures have modeling skills but these skills needed to be enhanced only when there is a major outfit within their localities“. (NAN)
