Lagos, Nov.17, 2017 (NAN) Mr Nathaniel Hodonu, a sculptor, on Friday lauded the high patronage of art works by art enthusiasts at the ongoing exhibition at the National Commission for Museums and Monuments in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exhibitions were on paintings and sculptures, tagged ” Menu Weh?” meaning ” Who are you?”.
He said that he had recorded no less than 120 visitors at his stand; some of who promised to visit again before the end of the exhibition and sold some of his art works.
According to him, this testifies to Nigerians’ increasing interest in arts which is encouraging.
NAN reports that the exhibition opened to the public on Nov. 11 and would end on Nov. 25 with over 57 works on display.
Hodonu urged the National Commission for Museums and Monuments to solve power outage affecting the museum to encourage more visitors there.
“I am quite happy to see people coming in to see and buy what I have here, this means that Nigerians are gradually getting interested in arts.
“ I have sold 3 pieces of my works and over 120 visitors have been recorded,” he said.
The artist urged fellow artists to think out of the box and experiment with different materials within their reach to produce their works.
He said that there were quite a number of materials, unimagined, that artist could use for works but had not been discovered.
He noted that he only experimented with coconut shell but observed at the end of the day that it was a good material to be used in arts.
“ We can minimise the rate at which we import materials, let us all think deep and experiment more with local materials to discover new things to use for our works.
“I experimented with coconut shell and it came out beautiful.
“Several visitors have commended me in this exhibition, as a matter of fact, more people have fallen in love with those I used coconut shell for,” he said.
Hodonu urged Nigerians to visit the National Museum while the exhibition was still on to benefit from it. (NAN)
