Lagos, Dec. 8, 2016 (NAN) An estate agent, Uzonna Obi, is to cool his heels in Kirikiri Prison pending the perfection of his bail conditions after pleading innocent to defrauding an accommodation seeker of N130,000.
The 29- year- old accused, who resides at No. 27, Egbatedo St., Agege, Lagos, was granted N100,000 bail on Thursday by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
He is facing a three- count charge bordering on fraud and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the accused, in August, collected N130,000 from the complainant, Okemadu John, to secure a one-room apartment for him.
Ajebe alleged that the accused fraudulently converted the money to procure a visa and lied to the complainant that he was duped.
“The complainant made all efforts for the accused to refund his money which was unsuccessful.
“Obi started giving the complainant one excuse or the other, refusing to return the money and started threatening the complainant that ‘he will kill him, ‘saying he is from Okija’,” Ajebe said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate Alexander Komolafe, granted the accused N100,000 bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of being gainfully employed with payment of tax to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned to Jan. 18, 2017 (NAN)
