Yenagoa, March 21, 2107 (NAN) Mr Ebiye Tarabina, a lawmaker representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 11 in Bayelsa House Assembly, says he will give necessary support to Okoloba and Igbedi communities ravaged by erosion recently.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the erosion, which occurred on Jan. 9, destroyed properties like houses and farmlands, there were no casualties.
The affected communities are in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government area of Bayelsa.
Tarabina told NAN on Tuesday in Yenagoa that his support would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the people and bring development to the area.
The lawmaker said he was willing to provide access roads and connect the communities to the national grid to enhance their socio-economic development
He described the effect of the erosion as worrisome and urged the affected people to pray that such incident would not occur again.
“I urge the youths to be law abiding, shun all acts of restiveness and be focused as plans are underway to register them for NECO, WEAC and JAMB examinations.
“Let me once again urge my people to be focused because there is need to diversify our economy.
“Many countries succeeded without oil and gas simply because of their dependence on agriculture, tourism among others; tourism and farming have capacity to expand the state’s revenue base.
“With agriculture, there will be food in the land and this is a veritable means to engage the youth and take them away from the street”. (NAN)
