Enugu, March 21, 2018 (NAN) The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) has been repositioned to showcase the rich cultural and tourism potential of the country to the world.
An official of the NTDC, Mrs Deborah Gwatiyap said this, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the ongoing 29th Enugu International Trade Fair in Enugu on Wednesday.
Gwatiyap said that the desire to get Nigerians informed of the tourist potential in the country led to their participation at the 2018 edition of the fair after being absent for long.
She said many Nigerians as well as foreigners had yet to get the needed information on tourism and holidaying, adding that the fair provided a viable template to provide such information.
“There are so many people that are yet to get tourism information in the country such as where to go for relaxation and holidays and where to purchase artifacts.
“We are here to provide such information.
“The corporation is the apex tourism organisation in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility of marketing tourism products in the country and beyond.
“We are here to market Nigeria to the world. We market our culture, weather, food, cuisine and crafts.
“We market the tourist attraction sites for holiday makers and those that would want to buy into it,” the official said.
Gwatiyap said that they were on ground to display arts and crafts that depicted various cultures in the country, adding that such would make Nigerians appreciate one another the more.
“We also have publications that contain tourism promotion and a compendium of what the country boasts of in the industry.’’
She said that several exhibitors and participants had been trooping to their stand to get the needed information on how tourism works in the country.
NAN reports that the theme of the 29th trade fair is: “Engendering the Competitiveness of Nigerian Products in the Global Market”. (NAN)
