Abuja, Feb. 2, 2018 (NAN) Mr Kayode Olumoko, the Chief Executive of Sound Factory Entertainment (SFE) an Abuja-based record company, has urged Federal Government to sponsor cultural music talent shows to revive cultural lyrics and prevent its extinction.

Olumoko made the call in interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

He said it was regrettable that cultural music that ruled the airways in the 70s and 80s had almost gone extinct.

He added that “we do not have talents like the Dan Maraya of Jos, King Sunny Ade, Mamman Shata of Kano, Osita Osadebe, Bongos Ikwe, Musa Dan Kwairo and many others again.

“What I am seeing is that the culture of music is tilting toward European entertainment, leaving our music behind.

“I will like Federal Government to sponsor reality TV shows on cultural music that will give entertainment industry the need to want to do better.”

The SFE boss said Federal Ministry of Information and Culture should support talented young local musicians to excel.

The entrepreneur, who added that the music industry was able to grow to the current height without government support, noted that “just image if we had 30 per cent government involvement, it
would have changed the face of entertainment.

“This is because, one artist moves around with a minimum of four crew members: the manager, makeup artiste etc.

“I want to see a platform where we can do a cultural X-Factor where we can see raw talents in cultural music: I am not so crazy about hip hop, afro beat.

“Though it is the money spinning genre right now, what about the things we grew up with?:, will kids know who Mamman Shata is in the next 30 years?.”

Olumoko reiterated the need for a platform where stakeholders could brainstorm on cultural music to chart a plan for the next 25-30 years for the entertainment industry.

He added that “government needs to put necessary facilities on ground for us to chart a road map for the next 25-30 years.’’ (NAN)
