Lagos, July 12, 2017 (NAN) A kickboxing referee, Henry George, on Wednesday advised sports bodies responsible for organising competitions to include entertainment to spice such events.

George spoke against the backdrop of restriction of sporting events strictly to competitions by the organisers in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said that adding entertainment to sports activities would add value and increase spectatorship at such venues as seen in basketball competitions where dancers entertain the spectators during intervals.

According to the kickboxing official, a mixture of entertainment with sports competitions would ensure regular turnout of fans as they know that they will be entertained.

“There is need to make competition venues lively to the spectators.

“Apart from music which is regular in competition venues, organisers can introduce comedies, dancing groups that can entertain spectators and sometimes inspirational speakers that can educate people on important issues.

“Sports are activities that involve more youths and as luck will have it, spectators derive pleasure in watching athletes compete in their beats,’’ he said.

George said that such entertainments events would go a long way to make competition memorable for spectators and make them to desire to be part of subsequent editions.

“People get thrilled with what they see; and spectators will be glad watching a variety of activities.

“So, when the sports body approach them for support, they will respond,’’ he said. (NAN)
