Ensure proper upbringing of your children, Ganduje’s wife urges parents

Kano, March 8, 2017 (NAN) The Wife of Kano State Gov., Hajiya Hafsat Abdullahi Ganduje, has called on parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children.

She made the call at the International Women’s Day Celebration held at the Coronation Hall, Government House in Kano on Wednesday.

She said the call was necessary to enable children become useful members of the society and contribute their quotas toward the development of the state and the country at large.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to commemorate the day which was set aside by the United Nations.

According to her, the call was also necessary in view of the fact that parents played significant roles in shaping the future for their children.

She advised parents to invest in the education of their children, particularly the girl-child as the only legacy they would leave to them.

“You should ensure that your children are properly educated both in Western and Islamic education.

“This is necessary because education is the bedrock of any meaningful development in the society,” she said.

The state Commissioner of women Affairs, Hajiya Yardada Bachi, urged women to use the International Women’s Day Celebration for sober reflection and stock taking.

According to her, the Ganduje administration had done a lot for women in the state, particularly in the area of women and youths empowerment.

She said the state government had initiated a number of empowerment programmes aimed at enhancing the economic status of women in the state.

She called on women in the state to continue to accord Ganduje administration the necessary support and cooperation to enable it provide the much needed infrastructure.

NAN reports that during the occasion, the governor’s wife inaugurated Women and Peace and Gender Activities Committees for the development of women in the state.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of food items and other materials to women across the 44 local government areas of the state. (NAN)
