Abuja, March 1, 2017(NAN) Mr Andem Bassey, the incoming President, Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) has called for partnership with the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to address the activities of quacks in the country.
Bassey made the call on Wednesday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to Managing Director of NAN, Mr Bayo Onanuga to officially invite the agency to 15th Investiture as the president of the institution.
He lamented the infiltration of quacks in the engineering practice and promised to curb the resultant menace which this might pose.
He said that the visit was also to solicit the support of NAN in advancing the effort of the institution to check the menace of collapsed buildings as a result of the activities quacks in the country.
“The reason we are here is because we want to have a relationship with the agency and work together,’’ he said.
Bassey said that members of the institution were gravely concerned and disturbed about the trend of collapsed buildings recorded all over the country.
“We are therefore creating a forensic unit to look into these things,’’ he said.
He urged NAN managing director to partner with the body in order to checkmate this trend.
Andem commended the agency’s credibility in its efficient news packaging and delivery, while stressing the need for support to combat unprofessionalism in the sector.
He promised to officially visit the agency again after his investiture on March 3 with his team.
Responding, Onanuga pledged his support and assured of the agency’s willingness to work with the engineering body.
“You are most welcome; today is the day of professionals. I can assure you that the agency will be there to honour you on your investiture,’’ he said. (NAN)
