Katsina, Oct. 11, 2017 (NAN) The wife of Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Zakiyya Masari, has disbursed N5 million to 1,000 women as economic empowerment package in Ingawa, Baure and Sandamu Local Government Areas of the state.

The Press Secretary to the governor’s wife, Hajiya Hauwa Jikamshi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina on Wednesday.

According to Jikamshi, each of the beneficiaries received cash donation of N5,000 and empowerment items like bags of flour and spaghetti among others to make them self-reliant.

She said most of the beneficiaries from the three council areas were rural dwellers.

She said the gesture was aimed at boosting the economic fortunes of the women, pointing out, ”the little amount would make significant impact on the rural women that engage in petty trading”.

In a related development, the governor’s wife also presented sickle cell drugs to the management of Ingawa General Hospital to be distributed free of charge to the patients suffering from the disease.

She reiterated the commitment and determination of Mrs Masari towards youth empowerment, especially women whose sources of income were minimal to support their husbands.

NAN reports that the governor’s wife recently extended similar gesture to thousands of women in Daura, Maiadua and Mani Local Government Areas of the state. (NAN)
