Employee docked for allegedly stealing 33 granite slabs worth N1.8m

Lagos, June 19, 2018 (NAN) A 28-year-old employee, Paul Godwin, who allegedly stole 33 granite slabs valued at N1.8 million belonging to his employer, was on Tuesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 16, about 7.30 p.m at Awoyaya, Lekki, Lagos.
Dike said that the accused conspired with three others presently at large, to steal 33 granite slabs valued at N1.8 million, which belonged to his employer, Tripana Marble and Granite Ltd.
“The accused and his accomplices have been stealing the slabs in bits from the company’s warehouse and had stolen 33 slabs before another employee, who saw them, notified the management,” he said.
The offence contravened Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 (7) stipulates seven years imprisonment, while Section 411 prescribes two years imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until June 29, for further hearing. (NAN)
