By Akeem Abas
Ibadan, July 18, 2017 (NAN) Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, has assured students and management of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo, that the institution would be re-opened soon.
Olowofela told newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday that the institution was shut recently to prevent the breakdown of law and order as a result of students’ rampage.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the institution was on June 2 shut over violent protest by the students of the college.
Olowofela also said that the state government had received letter of apology from the students and management of the institution.
He said that the state government was still investigating the cause of the violent protest to forestall future recurrence.
Olowofela urged the students to always employ dialogue on issues rather than engaging in violent protest, promising that the state government would not relent in its efforts to transform the institution.
Dr Razak Adefabi, the Provost of the institution, had in an apology letter to the state government, pleaded for forgiveness over the embarrassment caused Gov. Abiola Ajimobi during the protest.
“We want to say unequivocally that the students have since regretted their action.
“The entire community is hereby pleading with His Excellency to temper justice with mercy and graciously re-open the institution.
“We thank Your Excellency for the innovative approach and genuine concern toward tertiary education in Oyo State,’’ the provost stated in the apology letter.
Adefabi promised that the institution’s management was prepared to explore various means to boost the institution’s revenue generation. (NAN)
