Institution
Okuta(Kwara), Jan. 3, 2018 (NAN) The Emir of Okuta in Kwara, Alhaji Idris Abubakar, has called for a rightful place for traditional institution in the Nigeria’s policy implementation process.
Abubakar made this call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Okuta, Baruten Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.
The traditional ruler said, “Nigeria will continue to experience failure in some of its policies until traditional institution is rightfully positioned in the implementation process.
“As you can see that traditional rulers are the closest to the grassroots and among all, we are the chief custodians of the cultural heritages of our people.
“Government officials or let us say politicians, have tenure to stay in office but traditional rulers will be on the throne for as many years as God wishes.
“This means that we are being preserved for traditional functions for our people and such duty must not be undermined.
“This is because of the peculiarity of our leadership, which cannot be found anywhere among the entire arms of government”.
The emir, who is also the Chairman of Baruten Traditional Council,
stated that for Nigeria to return to its golden era, traditional institution is indispensable.
According to him, there will be the urgent need for government at all levels to revisit the essential roles of the institution during the pre-colonial era, with a view to addressing the challenges facing the nation.
He, however, urged Nigerians to always support government’s policy actions and programmes particularly the call for indivisible and a united nation. (NAN)
