Keffi (Nasarawa State) Jan. 16, 2017 (NAN) The Emir of Keffi in Nasarawa State, Dr Shehu Chindo-Yamusa, has cautioned farmers against selling all their farm produce inthe current economic challenges.
The emir gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lafia on Monday.
“It will do us a lot of good if farmers in the country keep part of their produce for their families’ use before the beginning of next farming session,” he said.
Chindo-Yamusa cautioned farmers against indiscriminate sales of their farm produce at this critical time of economic challenge.
“I appeal to the farmers to save part of their farm produce and sell in little quantities that would solve their immediate problem to beat recession,” he said.
Chindo-Yamusa advised them to save enough food items to sustain them till next harvest, stressing that they should not allow rich men to buy from them now and sell to them later at higher prices.
The traditional ruler commended both the federal and state governments for supporting the farmers with farm inputs which yielded the bumper harvest recorded.
The emir urged Nigerians to return to the farm as a way of boosting the nation’s economy as well as reducing dependence on revenue from oil.
“It was very wrong for Nigerians to heavily depend on monolithic source of income which is oil,” he said.
The traditional ruler also called on his subjects and Nigerians to continue to live in peace with one another, irrespective of religious, cultural and ethnic differences.
He said that “peace and unity are veritable tools for national development, so Nigerians must strive to maintain them for the country to move forward”. (NAN)
