Abuja, March 10, 2017 (NAN) The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed some essential transport logistics to the Kaduna Airport to ensure safety of travellers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the logistics include one rescue helicopter, three Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Ambulances and three Rapid Intervention Vehicles.

Mr Sani Datti, Head of Media and Public Relations of the agency, announced the deployment through a press statement on Friday in Abuja.

According to him, the intervention was in line with safety measures put in place by the agency, following the six-week closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

He said that NEMA was committed to joining stakeholders in providing support for emergency operation in the state as it would be experiencing heavy flow of travellers in the coming weeks.

Datti stated that the helicopter would be used for medical patrol while the ambulances and the RIVs would be stationed in strategic points, in case of emergency.

“One of the ambulances and vehicles is stationed at the Kaduna International Airport, another on the Kaduna-Abuja road and the third, between along Jere and Katari towns.

“The MICU ambulances serve as mobile hospitals to administer first aid treatment and stabilisation for trauma victims on their way to the hospital.

“The ambulance has the capacity to carry one critical victim and one less critical victim

“The RIVs are used for search and rescue to fight fire rapidly and extricate victims trapped in accident vehicles or collapsed structure,’’ he said.

Datti further stated that in case of an emergency, NEMA could be reached through its North West Zonal Office at No. 15, Wurno Road, Unguwan Sarki, Kaduna or through its emergency call numbers.

The Toll free call numbers are 0800CALLNEMA (080022556362) or the National Emergency Number, 112. (NAN)
