Nsit Atai (Akwa Ibom) Feb. 7, 2017 (NAN) The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Sule Kazaure, has advised corps members to embrace Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmes provided in orientation camps across the country.

Kazaure gave the advice on Tuesday while addressing corps members at the Akwa Ibom NYSC permanent orientation camp in Nsit Atai Local Government Area of the state.

The NYSC boss said that the SAED programme would make the corps members self-employed after the one year scheme.

He said that the SAED programme was supported by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BoI) and other corporate organisations.

“I want you to pay attention to skills acquisition. We are all aware that the white collar job is no longer available as before.

“I don’t want my children to be roaming about looking for job that is not there. I want you to pay attention.

“Pay attention to skills acquisition and ask questions. We are already in collaboration with Central Bank of Nigeria and Bank of Industry,” Kazaure said.

He said that CBN and BoI were ready to give money to NYSC members with sound business ideas and skills to start businesses.

Kazaure also advised the corps members to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities while in their places of primary assignment.

“NYSC is all about national integration. I want you to integrate very well. Integrate with one another.

“We have four cardinal programmes in NYSC. The four cardinal programmes are orientation, primary assignment, community development service and passing out parade,” he said.

In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Cyril Akhanemhe, said that there were 2,330 corps members in the state, made up of 863 male and 1467 female.

Akhanemhe thanked the Director-General for the donation of a brand new ambulance to the state NYSC secretariat.

He also thanked him for the recent promotion of staff members, noting that it had boosted their morale and increased productivity. (NAN)
