Tel Aviv, May 8, 2017 (dpa/NAN) The French Embassy in Israel on Monday said nearly 100 per cent of French Israelis voted for Emmanuel Macron.
Embassy figures released in Tel Aviv showed a decisive “no” to Marine Le Pen and her National Front’s history of anti-Semitism.
The French embassy noted that only four per cent of over 9,000 voters across Israel chose Le Pen.
The Israeli President, Reuven Rivlin, said in a congratulatory letter to Macron that “the number of voters in the run-off was 15 per cent higher than the first round.
“I want to thank you for your strong stance against anti-Semitism, and all forms of racism, which have once again raised their ugly heads around the world.”
Macron had received only 30 per cent of the vote in the first round of the presidential elections in Israel earlier this month, trounced by conservative Francois Fillon, who received 60 per cent.
Le Pen came under fire last month after saying France was not responsible for a mass round-up of Jews for deportation during World War II, marking a blow to her attempts to moderate her party’s image. (dpa/NAN)
