Lagos, Aug. 17, 2017(NAN) A 34-year-old electrician, Ismaheel Akindele, who allegedly used sub-standard wires to carry out a building contract for which he was given money to buy original wires, on Thursday appeared in a Lagos court.
Akindele, a resident of Sango-Otta, Ogun, was docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for the alleged fraudulent act he carried out against his customer, one Mrs Basirat Ishola, in a N440,000 contract.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, said that the accused committed the offence sometime in June, at Abbatoir, Agege, Lagos.
“The complainant approached the accused for the electrical work of her new building and told the accused that she wanted an original copper cable for the wiring.
“The accused billed her N440, 000 to enable him buy the original materials for the job.
“Instead, the accused went to buy used and substandard wire which cost less than the agreed wire,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the wire started having fault few days after the wiring.
The offence contravened Section 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 323 prescribes seven years jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against her and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun, said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Adigun adjourned the case till Aug. 30 for mention. (NAN)
