Ado-Ekiti, April, 23, 2017 (NAN) The Ekiti Sports Council on Monday appealed to stakeholders in sports, including cooperate bodies and philanthropic individuals to help develop sports in the state through sponsorship.
The General Manager of the council, Mr Ayodeji Samo, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that aside football, other sports were not developing in the state because of lack of sponsorship.
Samo listed the sports that needed quick intervention to include handball, basketball, tennis, table tennis, hockey, traditional games, athletics, boxing, judo and baseball.
The general manager said the state government could not provide all the needed funds for sports development alone and needed partnering with notable sponsors.
He said his office at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, was open to any individual or corporate organisation wanting to partner with the council to improve sports in the state.
“I wish to officially solicit for sponsorship from politicians, individuals and notable organisations for the promotion of sports in Ekiti.
“My office and the offices of directors in the council are open to interested sponsors to help revive our grassroots sports,” he said.
The general manager said such partnership would further empower the talented youths and make the state proud through various specialised sports. (NAN)
