Eid-el-Fitr: LG boss, cleric preach unity among Nigerians

Omu-Aran (Kwara State), June 14, 2018 (NAN) Hon Muyiwa Oladipo, the Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Council of Kwara, has enjoined Muslims to reflect on the significance of Eid-el-Fitr and intensify prayers for a united Nigeria.

Oladipo made the call in a message to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration on Thursday in Omu-Aran.

Eid-el-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The council boss said the country’s leaders needed the prayers of the led toward successful implementation of their laudable projects.

He added that “I want to urge Muslims to consolidate on the gains of the Ramadan with the Eid-el-Fitr and intercede for solutions to the nation’s challenges.

“The country is in dire need of unity, tolerance and peaceful co-existence to move forward socially and economically.”

Oladipo, who is also the Financial Secretary, National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Kwara, said Nigeria had made substantial progress in efforts to attain a developed economy since attaining independence.

He urged youths to be agents of good governance and peaceful co-existence.

Oladipo commended his council’s employees for their perseverance and dedication, “in spite of financial constraints.”

He solicited the cooperation of stakeholders in the area for the council to be able to turn around its fortunes.

A cleric, Bishop David Omorinoye, said prayers hold the key to the country’s growth, progress and development.

He urged Nigerians, irrespective of ethno-religious background to continue to be their brother’s keeper.

Omorinoye, who is the newly ordained Bishop of Bible Faith Evangelical Mission, Omu-Aran, urged Muslims to intensify prayers for national stability.

He stressed the need for discipline, trust, integrity and fear of God among the leaders and the led, for the country to move forward.

Omorinoye maintained that the successes recorded by the present administration’s anti-corruption fight had lifted the nation toward the path of greatness and economic recovery.

He stressed the need for Nigerians to support the anti-corruption crusade to achieve the desired results.

The man of God also stressed the need for politicians, especially those at the helm of the nation’s affairs to close ranks and put national interest above their personal egos. (NAN)
