Lagos, May 22, 2018 (NAN) Mr Femi Adebakin, Chief Executive Officer, Travel Plus, a travel agency, on Tuesday called for strengthening and effective implementation of policies on tourism to attract foreign and local investment to the sector.

Adebakin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that favourable policies would re-position the sector for huge opportunities.

“Investments in tourism would have multiplier effects on the economy.

“Nigeria is rich in culture amidst other tourist attractions, but has yet to gain grounds as a nation with a viable tourism sector.

“We are endowed with a lot of attractions but private involvement is much needed.

“Thus, government must put in place policies to lure people to invest their time and resources in the sector,’’ the chief executive officer said.

He told NAN that tourism was one of the few sectors that the Federal Government could fully exploit to shift focus from crude oil.

“I implore the three tiers of government to focus more on sectors such as tourism, agriculture and solid minerals, which are untapped gold mines, rather than depend on crude oil for revenue,’’ he added.

Adebakin said that strategic development of tourism would be the fastest way to extend economic opportunities to citizens at the grassroots, since it would create employments.

“Until government re-strategise through policies, we may continue to struggle in the sector,’’ he said.
