Ibadan, Dec.21, 2017 (NAN) The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo state chapter,  has called on the state governnor, Mr Abiola Ajimobi to ensure  standardisation of  the education in the state.

The association made the call  in a statement signed  by the chapter’s chairman, Mr Moronkola Abiola, on Thursday in Ibadan.

According to NANS, the present condition of pre-primary, primary and secondary education in Oyo state is  “poor  and  an eyesore”.

The association said that the state government needed to do more in restoring  the past glory of the education  sector  through standardisation  and supply of modern  equipment.

“ We see students roaming on streets during school hours and nothing specifically has been done to curb this, it pains our heart and our association frowns against this. We want redress and re-positioning,” the association said.

The association also frowned at the condition of the state tertiary institutions.

“In University of Ibadan, the Students’ Union has been put on hold for months. This is as a result of the peaceful protest led by the Union President, Mr Ojo Aderemi on the demand of good welfare condition for the students.

“We demand immediate reinstatement of the union and union officials.

NANS also expressed regret that academic activities have been halted in institutions  such as Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, the Ibarapa Polythecnic, Eruwa, College of Education, Lanlate, Oyo State College of Agriculture, Igboora.

They attributed the situation of the institutions under lock to refusal of the state government to meet the demands of the academic union’s in the affected institutions including payment of  their full salaries.

“Our members have been home, idle, and become left over. NANS cannot force them to resume to school because it will be an effort in futility

“ We will continue to charge the government to do the needful and save the future of the affected students,” NANS said.

In another development, NANS appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ease the current hardship faced by Nigerians.

“On the present economic situation, not too long ago, we heard the news that Nigeria is officially out of economic recession.

“ We will be more assured when Nigerians can feed themselves without distress and pain,” the association said.(NAN)
