Re-issued: Edo FRSC convicts 69 commercial vehicles for speed limiter violation

Benin, Feb. 14, 2017 (NAN) The Edo Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says it has secured conviction against 69 commercial vehicles for failure to install speed limiter device.

The Sector Commander of the commission in the state, Mr Samuel Odukoya, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Tuesday.

Odukoya told NAN that the figure covered the two weeks since the enforcement of the speed limiter device commenced.

According to him, the convictions were secured through a Mobile Court constituted by the commission.

He said that during the period under review, 917 vehicles were stopped with 236 of them booked and 174 cautioned across the 10 routes of the command.

He said that the court discharged 16 of the 85 vehicles prosecuted during the period.

Furthermore, the sector commander said that between Feb. 1 and Feb. 5, 450 vehicles were stopped out of which 87 vehicles were booked, 133 cautioned and 10 prosecuted and convicted.

Odukoya told NAN that between Feb. 6 and Feb. 12, the command stopped 467 vehicles, booked 149 vehicles and cautioned 41 vehicles.

He said that the command also secured 59 convictions out of 85 prosecutions while 16 vehicles were discharged during the period. (NAN)
