Easter: Lawmakers urge Christians to pray for peace, prosperity in Nigeria

Ibadan, March 31, 2018(NAN) Two national assembly members from Oyo State on Saturday urged Christians to use the Easter period to pray fervently for peace in the country.
The lawmakers, Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari (APC-Oyo South) and Mr Abiodun Olasupo representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, made the appeal in separate Easter messages made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
Buhari who is the Chairman Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime urged Nigerians, particularly Christians to use the occasion of Easter to pray for total peace in the country.
He urged Christians to pray for the leadership of the nation to overcome various security challenges the country is facing.
“Our Christian brothers and sisters should rededicate their lives to serve God, humanity and advancement of the country. They should embrace forgiveness, love and passion to help others.
“Jesus Christ during his time epitomised humility and dedicated his entire life to the assignment he was given. Nigerians should show total commitment in making our country great.
“The celebration of death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is a redeemed hope that dry bones in Nigerian shall rise again, if we keep faith with the nation’s leadership.
On his part, Olasupo urged Nigerians to pray fervently for peace and the survival of the country as we approach the 2019 elections.
“Nigerians are agitated about the coming elections due to the security situation in the country. They think it might affect the election, but thank God the government is on top of it.
“ All we have to do is pray fervently for peace to reign. Today, security issue is at the front burner in countries across the world.
“America is dealing with it, United Kingdom just had to deal with gas poisoning of a spy agent, while France is not left out,’’ he said.
The lawmaker appealed to Christians to use the Easter period in praying for God to guide the nation’s leaders to lead the country aright at all times.
Olasupo called on the people of Oyo State to keep faith with the Ajimobi-led administration, which he said has raised the bar of governance in the state. (NAN)
