Yobe Govt. sets to resolve age-long water problem in Fika-Governor

Fika (Yobe) Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe has expressed the determination of his administration to solve the age-long water problem in Fika town in Fika Local Government Area of the state.

Gaidam expressed the determination on Wednesday while inspecting the N333 million rehabilitation work at the Government Secondary School, Fika.

“Government is prepared to expend any amount from N1m to N100m to find a lasting solution to the age-long water scarcity in the town.

“The Ministry of Water Resources is hereby directed to submit to my office detailed technical requirement and estimates for immediate approval, for work to commence,” he said.

Gaidam said government succeeded in solving similar water problem in Gumsi, a Nigeria/Niger border community.

The governor also said a borehole was constructed 23kilometres from the village and a pipeline reticulated to the village to provide adequate water supply to the community.

The governor, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done in the school, said government would provide furniture, laboratory equipment and beddings for the school.

“The time you used to sleep under open roof is over, government will continue to provide infrastructure and instructional materials to improve learning and teaching in all our schools.

“I pray that students and Fika community will make good use of the school for their individual and collective educational benefits.”

Contributing, the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Mouhammed lamin, disclosed that that the state government spent N1.1 billion to rehabilitate three most dilapidated secondary schools in Fika, Gwio-Kura and Yunusari in each of the senatorial zone of the state.(NAN)
