Omu-Aran (Kwara State), May 25, 2017 (NAN) Mr Olugbenga Bankole, the Head of Department of Licencing Centre of FRSC, Omu-Aran unit Command, Kwara, has warned prospective drivers licence applicants against patronising unauthorised driving schools in obtaining the document.
Bankole gave the warning during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara on Thursday.
He said obtaining a valid driving certificate from authorised driving schools remained an important aspect of drivers licence application processes which the commission could not toy with.
According to him, the demand for valid driving certificate by the commission is in accordance with the present administration’s optimum regard for due process in governance and the discharge of civic responsibilities.
The head added that the era of presentation of all commoners documents toward obtaining drivers licence from the commission was over.
He urged prospective applicants to desist from patronising tout and channel their application for drivers licence through the commission’s approved Driver Licence Centres in obtaining the document.
He advised applicants to pay only the approved sum by the commission, saying that any other amount outside approved fees was illegal and against the commission’s ethics.
He expressed happiness over the re-opening of one of the closed commercial bank branches in the town, describing it as a welcome development.
He said the indefinite closure of banks in the area had slowed down processing and issuance of drivers licence to applicants.
An armed robbery attack in May 2013, resulting in the death of three people forced the banks to close shops indefinitely in the area.
Bankole said that the licenscng unit of the FRSC, which commenced operation in September 2013, would have surpassed its present record of achievements but for the closure of the banks.
He noted that applicants had been facing difficulties of travelling to Ilorin, the state capital, to pay the required fees due to non-availability of banks in the area.
He advised motorists to always make photocopies of their licence to avert going through the whole application process in case of loss.
Bankole said the command had taken its campaign to Churches, Mosques and transport unions in creating the necessary awareness on the availability of FRSC licence department in Omu-Aran. (NAN)
