Ikeja, Aug. 2, 2018 (NAN) A 45-year-old driver, Akin Adegbile, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing his employer’s N580,000.
According to the Prosecutor, ASP. Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offence on July 10 at Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ojokoro, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole N580,000 belonging to Mrs Olayinka Sule.
“The accused obtained N400,000 from his employer under the pretext of helping her to clear her truck which he did not, but instead he converted the money to his own.
“He also stole the complainant’s drums of kerosene valued at N180,000 and diluted it with water to deceive the buyer.
“The theft was discovered when the buyer traced the accused’s company to report that the goods sold to her was mixed with a lot of water.
“When the accused was confronted, he did not deny it.
“The case was reported and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing, while Section 314 attracts 15 years for obtaining money under false pretence.
Adegbile, who resides at Ijaiye Ojokoro, Lagos, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.
Magistrate Mrs B.O Osunsanmi granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties as part of the bail condition.
Osunsanmi said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned untill Aug. 18 for mention. (NAN)
