Ikeja, Sept. 18, 2018 (NAN) A 32-year-old driver, Femi Martins, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos
for alleged theft of N98,000.
Martins, who resides at Iyana-Ilogbo in Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Dada Wasiu, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on Aug. 10, at Ogba, Ikeja.
Wasiu said the accused stole N98, 000 belonging to the complainant, Mr Godknows Marcus.
“The complainant was walking toward a bank when the accused approached him, touched him, and ordered him to follow them.
“Marcus became confused and destabilised, and entered their vehicle.
“He was taken to an unknown place where they collected his N40,000 cash and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card which they used to withdraw his N58,000,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that when the complainant sighted the accused few days later, he alerted the police and the accused was arrested.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A.K Dosumu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
Dosumu said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Oct. 10. (NAN)
