By Teniola Ibitola
Lagos, Feb. 13, 2018 (NAN) The police on Tuesday arraigned a 34-year-old driver, Taofeek Sanusi, in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge of reckless driving, driving without a licence and manslaughter.
The prosecution alleged that Sanusi drove recklessly against the traffic, crashed into a tricycle and caused the death of a passenger, Godwin Nkwocha.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 9, at about 11.00 a.m. under Iganmu Bridge.
She said Sanusi drove a space wagon No. BR 478 EPE, recklessly and caused the death of Nkwocha and injured the tricycle rider, Saheed Abolaji, and Nkwocha’s children — James and Ikenna.
Egunjobi alleged that Sanusi had faced the lane of oncoming motorists and rammed his car into the tricycle in which Nkwocha and his two children were riding.
The offences contravene the Traffic Act Cap 124 of Lagos State of Nigeria 2012.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Salawu, adjourned the case until March 15 for ruling on bail application by the defendant. (NAN)
